Pregnant with your first baby?
The WISE study is exploring how the first year of parenthood impacts parents’ well-being (including weight, body composition, mental & emotional health and other measures of wellness).
We’re looking for people pregnant with their first baby to participate in this Manawatū-based study. Your partner/spouse will also be invited to participate; however, this is not a requirement of the study.
If you’re interested in participating, complete the registration form, and someone will be in touch!
The WISE Study
-
By participating in the WISE study you are contributing to NZ health research that will help improve the understanding of the demands on new parents while also learning about your own health and wellbeing during this time.
-
To be eligible for the WISE study you need to be pregnant with your first baby and aged over 16. You will need to have had a pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) of between 18.5-29.9. If you don’t know your BMI we will be able to help you calculate it. Alternatively, you can ask your midwife.
-
There are five face to face study visits:
During pregnancy (after 37 weeks)
6 weeks post birth
12 weeks post birth
6 months post birth
12 months post birth
-
Each study visit changes slightly. They will last between 30-60 minutes each and involve physical measurements and assessments (including height, weight, bodyscans and waist/hip measurements), interviews and electronic equestionnaires.
-
Study visits will be offered in a combination of your own home and in a clinic space in Palmerston North. Whichever works well for you.
